Paswan to meet Karunanidhi today

Pondicherry Jan. 10. The Lok Jansakthi founder, Ram Vilas Paswan, today said he planned to call on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, in Chennai tomorrow and, if possible, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, Vaiko, the day after. He had already held discussions with leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India and others.

Mr. Paswan was here to participate in a conference on social justice organised by the local unit of the Lok Jansakthi.

The party's manifesto for the Lok Sabha poll would be released at a national convention to be held in Patna on February 21. His party would be part of the secular front. The Congress was trying to unite the secular forces.

Replying to a question, Mr. Paswan said he had no objection to the All-India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi, being projected as the Prime Ministerial candidate. He said delimitation of constituencies should be done on the basis of the 2001 census to do justice to the SC and ST population. The `mini budget' announced by the National Democratic Alliance Government two days ago would benefit only the rich.
