The accused, led by one, Sudheer Goud, allegedly barged into the newspaper office in the evening accusing the staff of publishing a defamatory report against a Minister, the Kachiguda ACP, A. Venkateswara Rao, said.

Even as Mr. Murthy was assuring them to take the matter to the notice of editorial board, the intruders picked up an argument with him.

"One of them punched the journalist resulting in displacement of two teeth. On seeing the elderly man profusely bleeding, the attackers tried to flee. But, the police caught hold 15 of them", Mr. Rao said.

Journalists, local activists of Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi staged rasta roko at Tarnaka crossroads and a demonstration in front of Osmania University police station.

They later burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, condemning attack on the journalist.
