Letters to the Editor
Sir, The National Democratic Alliance Government, as rightly pointed out in the editorial `A budget by other means' (Jan. 9), is determined to strengthen the "feel good" factor about the economy. The Finance Minister, Jaswant Singh, has succeeded in presenting a pre-election, please-all `mini-budget.' However, despite the high economic growth the people are suffering. We need to motivate society from the grassroots to achieve real success.
George John,
* * * Sir, The `Dada dadi bonds' for senior citizens are welcome but what about the public sector employees who have opted for the VRS? They should also benefit.
Geetha Sampath,
* * * Sir, The package of fiscal measures is apparently meant for the convenience of the overburdened tax department.
S. Krishnan,
* * * Sir, I think you were hasty in concluding that the Government has not done enough for the downtrodden. The complete package, I think, will satisfy all sections.
A.P.V.S. Naga Mohan,
* * * Sir, Concessions were granted in spite of the fact that tax collections, both direct and indirect, have not shown any abnormal buoyancy.
G. Devarajan,
