Major port operators to bid for Vallarpadam project

KOCHI, JAN. 11. The Vallarpadam International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICTT) project has entered a crucial phase with four major port operators taking the Request for Qualification (RFQ) Documents in response to a global invitation for the project notified by the Cochin Port Trust (CPT).

"The ICTT in Kochi will become a reality finally," said the CPT chairman, Jacob Thomas, in a press statement here today.

During the last eight days, four major port operators - Dubai Ports International, Dubai, UAE, Maersk A/S Mumbai, ACT Shipping Ltd., Gandhidham and Larsen and Toubro Limited, Chennai — bought the RFQ documents directly from the port. Besides this, nine port operators have downloaded the documents from the port's web site until date. Since the global invitation was notified on January 1, the CPT website had received 30 hits from interest parties, said a CPT communication today. "It is hoped that a good majority of the firms which have downloaded the RFQ documents would submit their applications for short-listing by the due date of January 15, 2004," the statement said.

As per the current schedule, the CPT hopes to award the work on the greenfield project by March 31. The receipt of RFQ from the bidders is expected on January 15. The finalisation of the bidders will be completed on January 17.
