TIRUPATI, JAN. 11. The exhibition being conducted by the Sri Venkateswara University in commemoration of its Golden Jubilee year came to a close today. Apart from students and employees of the varsity, the exhibition meant to showcase the achievements of the various departments of the university, even drew outsiders. Standing out were the exhibits of the zoology department, which showed the rare fauna in and around the Seshachalam hill ranges spread over Chittoor and Cuddapah districts, of which Tirumala is a part. The photographs and video clippings of Jerdon's Courser (cursorius bitorquatus), an endangered bird found in the region and Golden Jecko (calodactylodes aureus), a rare and nocturnal member of the reptile family, also endemic to this area, found a place. The photographs and footage were put together by the head of the department, N.V.Nandakumar, and his team of research scholars at the Sri Lankamalleswara sanctuary (Cuddapah district) and Sri Venkateswara wildlife sanctuary (Tirumala). The biochemistry department organised a free blood grouping and testing camp at the expo for the benefit of visitors.
