CHENNAI, JAN. 11. A remand prisoner gave police the slip when he was being taken to the Central Prison here, on Saturday. The police said Govinda Verma (21) of Uttar Pradesh was arrested on the charge of pocket picking and was remanded to judicial custody. He managed to escape when two constables attached to the Mambalam station were escorting him to the prison in an autorickshaw. The police said that as the autorickshaw neared the entrance of the prison, Verma jumped off the vehicle, jumped into the Cooum from the flyover and fled.
