Lift time restriction

Sir, — The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has announced a 50 per cent cut in fare for senior citizens between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The time restriction should be lifted and the concession should be extended to the buses of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation also.

Road show by schools

Sir, — Come January and one sees functions to mark school day, sports day and so on being organised by various English-medium schools in the city.

Such occasions were meant to give the children a break from the routine, before they begin rigorous preparations for their annual examination.

They were also used to spot talent among children and encourage them. However, of late, these functions have now been commercialised. Eye-catching buntings are put up and loud music is played. Some schools spend lavishly on these functions, making them a "prestigious events". The idea is apparently to vow the public and attract students for the next academic year. Many of these schools forcibly collect money from students for organising these functions.

I hope the Government takes a serious view of this and cracks down on such road shows by schools.

More buses needed

Sir, — At present, red-board buses start from Andhrahalli and Thigalarapalya to K.R. Market and the Kempe Gowda Bus Station. The buses are overcrowded at the starting point itself. Those waiting at stops en route are not able to board them.

This has been brought to the notice of the authorities concerned, but action is yet to be initiated. For the sake of working women, schoolchildren, and senior citizens, it has been requested to run two red-board buses from Vidyamanyanagar Temple to the Kempe Gowda Bus Station and back from 6.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m.

But the request has not been met.

The red-board bus from Jalahalli Cross to Bommanahalli and back should be routed via Andhrahalli Circle, Herohalli Cross, and Sunkadakatte.
