Letters to the Editor
Sir, The ransacking of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute is a shame. The country has lost rare and valuable documents collected over years. Oriental research institute libraries are already faced with the problems of preservation and conservation. Now they have an added problem of over zealous elements causing irreparable loss to our heritage.
A.A.N. Raju,
* * * Sir, The decent course of action would have been to lodge a protest and ask for the expunction of the offending passages on Shivaji, if any.
T.M. Sundararaman,
* * * Sir, Pyrrhic victory this certainly is; a clear sign of the grave peril pluralist liberalism in India is currently exposed to.
P.R. Krishna Narayanan,
* * * Sir, It is too late to term the ransacking of the Institute an act of barbarism. With the demolition of the Babri Masjid, we have already proved we are barbaric. And by preventing our own brethren from other States from writing competitive examinations, we have proved beyond doubt that we are barbarism personified.
Tharci S. Fernando,
