Matrimonial meet

MYSORE JAN. 12. Aseema, a voluntary service trust, will hold a matrimonial meet for Trimathasta Brahmins on January 18 at Sri Parakala Math at 10.30 a.m.

Yoga camp

MYSORE JAN. 12. Ananda Marga Pracharaka Sangha has organised a two-month programme in Yoga, Ishwar Pranidan (meditation techniques), Tandava, and Kaushiki dance from January 16. The classes will be conducted by the Mysore Diocese Secretary of Ananda Marga, Acharya Vajreshwaranand Avadhut.

Cultural competition

MYSORE JAN. 12. Kuvempu Vidyarthi Balaga of the University of Mysore will conduct an inter-collegiate cultural competition as part of the Kuvempu birth centenary celebrations. Competitions in light music, film music, and chorus singing will be held on January 17 at Senior B.A. Hall, Maharaja's College from 10 a.m.

Those interested can register their names on the spot.

Last date announced

MYSORE JAN. 12. The Joint Director of Agriculture has said that the last date for farmers to pay the premium for crop insurance is January 15.

A press release issued here said farmers could contact the nearest Raitha Samparka Kendra for details.

Essay competition

MYSORE JAN. 12. Gandhi Study Centre, Mysore, and Paschimavahini Sarvodaya Mela, Srirangapatna, will conduct an essay competition on "Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts on Sarvodaya principles". The competition is open for students of colleges and universities.

The essay should be accompanied by a letter from the student's respective institution or the head of the department and should contain the addresses of the college and the student.

The entries should reach Seetharama Iyengar, Paschimavahini Sarvodaya Mela Samithi, Vatsalya Dhama, 521, A Block, Ramakrishna Nagar, Mysore, by January 30.

15 hurt in accident

SHIMOGA Jan. 12. At least 15 persons aboard a private bus were injured when the vehicle dashed against a tree and overturned at Tyavarekoppa, about 10 km. from here, on Shimoga-Sagar Road on Monday.

The accident occurred when the bus driver was making way for another vehicle to overtake.

The bus was bound for Shimoga from Sagar.

The injured have been shifted to McGann Hospital.

Exemption order

MADIKERI Jan. 12. Autorickshaws registered in Kodagu district have been exempted from mandatory fixing of fare meters following a Government Order on January 6. According to the order, the exemption has been given owing to the topography of the district and lack of facilities for repair of the meters.

The Kodagu Autorickshaw Owners' and Drivers' Association had been demanding that the Government exempt them from fixing the meters in their vehicles.
