KOCHI, JAN 12. Students of the B.Ed. programme of the University College of Teacher Education in Thripunithura today took out a protest march against the recent directive of the Kerala High Court to the Mahatma Gandhi University to start new B.Ed. courses at its various centres only after getting recognition from the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE). The students later submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, demanding Government intervention to resolve the issue. According to the sixth batch of students at the centre, the directive would affect around 2,100 students of as many as 12 B.Ed. centres of the Mahatma Gandhi University. The students had paid Rs. 20,000 as fees for the one-year programme. They said lack of infrastructural facilities had affected the functioning of the centre in Thripunithura. The students demanded better facilities to ensure the smooth conduct of courses.
