M.Phil Result: The result of the M.Phil programme in Chemistry (2002-03 batch) has been announced.

MCJ Viva: The viva-voce for the 2001-03 batch of MCJ students of the Department of Communication and Journalism, is to be held from January 17 onwards.

Examination Centre: The university has announced certain changes in the centres for the second year B.Sc. supplementary examinations.

Contact Classes: The contact classes for the third year B.Sc. Mathematics students will be held at the Department of Music in the Womens Hostel compound in Vazhuthcaud, Thiruvananthapuram, from January 13 to 24.

Institute of Distance Education: On the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) of the University of Kerala, the rank-holders of the Institute are to be felicitated at a function to be held at the Senate Hall on January 31. Students of the IDE who have secured top ranks in the examinations conduced by the university have been asked to furnish their details. Competitions in various cultural events will also be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same day. More details are available over telephone (Numbers— 0471 2412221, 2418019 and 2559824).

Memorial Lecture: Renowned critic and academic, K. P. Mohanan, will deliver the Mahakavi G. Memorial lecture at the Department of Malayalam on the Kariavattom campus at 10 a.m. on January 14 and 15.

Department of Mathematics: The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala, S. Kevin, has urged the teachers of Mathematics to resort to alternative strategies to simplify and popularise mathematics education. Inaugurating a three day-international conference of Mathematics teachers, organised jointly by the Department of Mathematics and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, he suggested that the focus of teaching of this subject be on removing the fear of Mathematics among students. It should be made more student-friendly and easy, he added. A.Sukumaran Nair, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala, delivered the keynote address and K. S. S. Namboodiripad, Director, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, presided.
