Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 13. About 120 employees, attached to the association of daily wage paid workers and part time staff of government departments, today courted arrest when they attempted to picket the Chief Secretariat on the beach road in response to a call given by the Confederation of Associations of the Government Staff. They demanded confirmation of daily wage and part time workers in various departments of Pondicherry Administration. They also wanted amendment to rules to enable the workers to reach the position of sanitary staff on seniority basis. They also brought to the fore the grievances of the workers attached to noon meal centres and urged creation of Group `D' posts in government schools. They took out a rally from the Bharathi Park to the venue.
Work to rule
The workers attached to the Horticulture Cell in the Department of Agriculture resorted to work to rule, demanding that they be confirmed in the posts. Presently they were working on daily wage basis. They demanded that mazdoor posts be filled immediately.
