HYDERABAD, JAN 13. It would now be worthwhile to have a look at the small change you get whenever you buy something, especially at pan shop. After all you could end up with counterfeit coins. The circulation of fake coins came to light on Tuesday when Patancheru police in Medak district arrested N. Sudhakar, a former employee of the Ordnance factory and seized 2,200 coins of Rs. 5 denomination from his possession. According to the police, Sudhakar claimed that he got the counterfeit coins from a certain Satyanarayan Reddy who hails from Tanuku town. The arrested person confessed to supplying the fake coins to several small businessmen having pan shops or STD booths in Miapur, Kukatpally, Chandanagar and Patancheru. Police raided a pan shop near the Patancheru bus stand and seized 930 coins of Rs. 5 denomination after arresting the owner Pochaiah. According to the Patancheru Circle Inspector, B. Gangaram, the fake coins are somewhat lighter and they have a noticeable depression in the middle of the coin.
