WARANGAL, JAN. 13. The much-awaited works on the Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme (GLIS), Devadula, would begin on January 22, the Major Irrigation Minister, K. Srihari, said here today.

Reviewing the works, the Minister, the Principal Secretary (irrigation), C.V.S.R.K. Sharma and the district Collector, N. This would enable irrigation of over six lakh acres in Warangal, Nalgonda, Medak and Karimnagar districts.

As part of the first phase, the Government has called for a tender worth around Rs. 844 crores and accorded sanction to Hindustan Constructions and Kirloskars.

The first phase works would be completed within one year. Land acquisition for the purpose is under progress.

The project envisages laying of a pipeline of 135 kilometre to pump water into the Bheemghanpur, Dharmasagar and Station Ghanpur tanks and supply water to Chalivagu, Nagaram and Pedda Pendyala tanks. The Minister clarified that there was no dearth of funds for the project.
