Illyas will return to Chennai in a day or two

By K. Manikandan

CHENNAI, JAN. 13. Officials of the White House Trading company, of which Abdul Haye Mohammed Illyas is one of the partners, were surprised when they came to know that he was mistaken for an Al-Qaeda suspect by U.S. Intelligence agencies.

"We came to know about it only through media reports this morning. Mr. Illyas is abroad right now attending an international software exhibition. He is expected to return to Chennai in a day or two," a company spokesman said.

Mr. Illyas, the spokesman said, earned a free ticket to travel between Paris and Los Angeles under the Frequent Flyer Programme on December 24 last year. However, he did not take the flight. He was unable to take a flight between Mumbai and Paris on January 7 too, the spokesman said.

"It is unfortunate that Mr. Illyas' name was mistaken for that of an Al-Qaeda suspect," he said. Their company was involved in the export of knitted garments. After this morning's report (in ) investigators from various agencies began trooping to the office.
