KOCHI, JAN. 13. The Southern Railway cancelled the Jansatabdi Express and the Ernakulam-Kayamkulam shuttle and diverted a few trains after a goods train derailed between Ernakulam Junction and Kumbalam on Tuesday. Eight empty oil tankers of a goods train from Tirunelveli derailed near Kumbalam at 2.50 p.m. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. The Jansatabdi Express (Train No. 2076) from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam on Wednesday has also been cancelled. The Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express (3351) was terminated at Ernakulam Junction today. The Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express (3352) will start from Ernakulam Junction on Wednesday. The morning train services on the Alappuzha-Ernakulam section will continue to be disrupted on Wednesday, according to a communication from the Public Relations Officer of the Southern Railways, Thiruvananthapuram. The Railways have also diverted some of the trains tomorrow. The Thiruvananthapuram-Gorakhpur Rapti Sagar Express (5011), Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity Express (6341) and Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram Express (6331) have been diverted to the Kottayam route. The Alappuzha-Chennai Express (6042), Alappuzha - Kannur Express (6307), Thiruvananthapuram-Nizamuddin Express (2643), Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam Intercity Express (6342), Thiruvananthapuram-Nizamuddin Rajadhani Express (2431) and the Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur (6127) Express were diverted through the Kayamkulam-Kottayam route on Tuesday. The rescheduling of trains inconvenienced hundreds of passengers. The trains that were supposed to take the Alappuzha route from Ernakulam were diverted through Kottayam and Kayamkulam today. These included the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Thiruvananthapuram Netravati Express (6345), Gorakhpur-Thiruvananthapuram Rapti Sagar Express (5012), Howrah-Thiruvananthapuram Express (6324) and the Guruvayur-Chennai Express (6128). All the diverted trains were running late.
