NIZAMABAD, JAN. 13. The social activist and Andhra Pradesh Water Conservation Mission member, Anna Hazare, was accorded a rousing welcome by the people of the district, on his visit to Bodhan and nearby areas on Tuesday. He participated in a couple of developmental programmes organised by Indur Foundation, a social organisation. Mr. Hazare was received by the founder chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, P.R. Somani and journalists at the Kandakurthy bridge across the Godavari. He was accompanied by the chairman and managing trustee of Indur Foundation, M. Amarnath Babu. Mr. Hazare then visited the Triveni Sangamam and offered prayers at the ancient Sivalayam on the banks of the Godavari. He interacted with the villagers who turned out in good numbers to accord him a welcome and garlanded him. Mr. Hazare had to stop at Neela and Satapur villages enroute to Bodhan, when villagers greeted him. He got down from his vehicle and met the locals and spoke for a few minutes. At the ARP camp in Yedpalli mandal, he inspected the checkdam constructed across Ambamvagu under NABARD. He suggested that the height of the check dam be increased but the villagers pointed out that there was objection from a section of the locals. They said that residents of nearby villages felt that increasing the height would deny them water. Later, he left for Pentakurd village to lay the foundation stone for a checkdam across Haldivagu. However, Mr. Hazare, had to face some embarrassing moments, when the officials flatly told him that no permission was accorded for the construction of the checkdam. Mr. Hazare decided to speak to the Chief Minister and thrash out the problem but as Mr. Naidu, was busy with a programme in Hyderabad, he could not be contacted. Mr. Hazare had to return with out laying the foundation stone for the checkdam. There was widespread resentment at the adamant attitude of the officials. The locals questioned whether it was proper on the part of the district administration to humiliate a renowned social worker. Mr. Hazare, later visited Bodhan town and inaugurated the office of Indur Foundation and visited a special medical camp organised by the foundation.
