MADURAI, JAN. 13 . The burns ward in the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here has been provided with air-conditioning facility. The Dean, James Pandian, said the 18-bed ward would be given a facelift with cubicles and painting. A new ward for Toxicology would be set up, in view of the increasing number of cases of poisoning and snake bites. "This is the first burns ward to be air-conditioned in the government sector," he said. The Toxicology ward would come up at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs, allocated from the Constituency Development Fund of the MP, P. Mohan. The Tirupparankunram MLA, S. M. Seenivel, allocated Rs. five lakhs for purchasing advanced equipment for the ward. In addition to the visitors' shed in front of the casualty wing and paediatric ward, another shed would be built adjacent to the maternity ward on the eastern end. The groundwork would soon begin for the construction of a multi-speciality block at the Anna bus stand. The seven-storied building would be built to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Madurai Medical College in August this year, he said.
