Letters to the Editor
Sir, The editorial "Vajpayee versus?" (Jan. 14) reflects the contrast between the BJP, which has learnt to overcome all odds by striking a balance between its `hidden' agenda and coalition partners, and the Congress, which, despite its illustrious chronicle, is regressing due to its failure to see beyond Sonia Gandhi.
Sultan Mohiddin,
* * * Sir, The editorial has correctly evaluated the BJP's election strategy. The party obviously has no intention of appealing to the reason of the electorate. It would rather manipulate it at an emotional level. This strategy worked in the last Lok Sabha election when it could successfully exploit the patriotic surge in the country in the post-Kargil situation. This time the BJP's line is that the nation as a whole is basking in the sunshine of economic prosperity.
K. Vijayakumar,
* * * Sir, The same Prime Minister who accused the Opposition of irresponsibility for forcing an early election on the nation last time is now advocating early polls.
P. Venkatesh,
* * * Sir, The Prime Minister's criticism against the `unprincipled' alliance between the Congress and the DMK is surprising. Does he really believe that all the constituents of the NDA have joined his bandwagon only because they endorse the BJP's policies?
P.S. Sankaran,
* * * Sir, The voting behaviour is indeed unpredictable. The voter takes into account the inadequacies of the past Governments of the major players, not just the "feel good" factor.
K.S. Thampi,
