PONDICHERRY: ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company has opened its branch in Pondicherry. The Regional Director of the company, K. Bharathan, said in a communication that the company had become the leader among the private sector insurance companies within two and half years and had completed premium of Rs. 350 crores up to December last year and was poised to achieve Rs. 500 crore mark during this financial year. He said there was a plan to achieve Rs. 1000 crores by 2005. Mr. Bharathan said innovative covers were formulated to meet the customers needs. Steps had been taken to cover crops against weather in groundnut in Andhra Pradesh. Talks were on for such a facility for sugarcane also in Tamilnadu. ICICI Lombard had been functioning through 50 offices now and of them 20 were in the South.
