THRISSUR, JAN. 14. Sanskrit should be made a compulsory subject in primary schools, the Students' Welfare Association of the Puranattukara Sanskrit Vidyapeeta has said. In a resolution adopted at `Swasthi-2004 Samskrita Mahasangamam' here on Wednesday, the association said the functioning of the Sree Sankara University, Kalady, should be streamlined and the facilities to learn Sanskrit in Plus Two classes be improved. Inaugurating the `Swasthi-2004', the veteran poet, Akkitham, said that learning Sanskrit was the key to understanding the history and culture of India. Prof. Vasudevan Potti and Swami Mridananda of the Sree Ramakrishna Ashram were felicitated at the meeting. Among those present on the occasion was A.C. Jose, MP.
