MALAPPURAM, JAN. 14. The Syndicate of the Calicut University will meet here on January 17 to take a final decision on the proposal for hiking the examination fees for graduate and post graduate programmes of the university. A Syndicate Sub Committee had recommended that the fee for B.A/B.Sc/B.Com theory papers be hiked to Rs.25 from the existing charge of Rs.15 a paper and the practical paper to Rs. 30 from Rs.15. For M.A./M.Sc/M.Com courses the recommendation have been Rs.50 (theory paper) and Rs.100 (practical paper). The proposal for dissertations fee is Rs.300. It has also proposed a hike of Rs.50 a paper in theory as well as practical examinations for professional courses from their existing rate of Rs.10 and Rs.15 respectively. The examination fee for Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE), Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.LISc) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) has been recommended an increase to Rs.40 from Rs.25. If the Syndicate approves the proposals the new fee structure will be applicable with effect from this March. However, the recommendations have raised a volley of protests from various students' organisations. Representatives of students' organisations had also boycotted the meeting called by the Syndicate Sub Committee held on the campus on Tuesday. The student leaders alleged that they had been called to the meeting to impose these recommendations on the students. No reasons had been cited for hiking the examination fees, they said.
