KOTTAYAM, JAN. 14. Students from the 12 university centres under the self-financing stream at the Mahatma Gandhi University staged a dharna and organised protest marches at the university headquarters here today. The students were protesting against the apathetical attitude of the university authorities in resolving the crisis following the recent UGC directive regarding the running of the university B.Ed centres. According to the action council leaders, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, N. Ravindranath, and Syndicate members, who were present at the university, assured them of a solution without delay. As per today's assurance, the university would seek the service of an eminent advocate to pursue a legal recourse. In the meantime, steps would also be initiated to get the necessary recognition from the National Council for Teachers' Education (NCTE) for the B.Ed. centres, they said. A three-member committee, headed by the Director of School of Pedagogical Sciences, would call on the NCTE authorities for this purpose, the students said.
