NEW DELHI, JAN. 14. The Food Processing Minister, N. T. Shanmugham, and the Minister of State for Railways, A. K. Moorthy of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), today submitted their resignations to the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, following the party's decision to withdraw from the National Democratic Alliance and join the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led front in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Shanmugham later told reporters that they explained to the Prime Minister the political reasons for the party quitting the coalition and the Government. It had no "ill-will" towards the coalition and they expressed their gratitude to Mr. Vajpayee as they served under him. The Prime Minister accepted their resignations.
