CBI must reconsider stand: CPI(M)

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 14. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today took strong objection to the Central Bureau of Investigation's decision not to file a revision petition in the High Court challenging the discharge of L.K. Advani in the Babri Masjid demolition case. The party demanded that the CBI reconsider its stand and pursue the case against the Deputy Prime Minister.

"The CBI by this act has damaged its credibility and will be seen as acting as an instrument to serve the interests of the ruling party and the Union Home Minister," the CPI (M) politburo said in a statement.

The CBI had no business to drop the conspiracy charge in the revised chargesheet filed before the Rae Bareli court and with its decision not to appeal the judgment exonerating Mr. Advani, the CBI had failed in its elementary duty in acting as the prosecuting agency in the demolition case, the statement said.
