THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 14. Activists of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) staged a dharna in front of the residence of the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, this morning, in protest against alleged corruption in the granting of no-objection certificates to start B.Ed. colleges in the State. The AIYF activists, numbering around 40, squatted outside the gates of the Minister's official residence near the DPI Junction, shouting slogans. They also attempted to lock the gates from outside. The activists were later arrested, taken to the Museum police station and subsequently let off in the afternoon. A press note issued by the AIYF, here, charged that even though it had become evident that there was corruption to the tune of crores of rupees in the granting of B.Ed.colleges, the Chief Minister was protecting the Education Minister.
