Power cuts in East Delhi

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 14. Residents of many areas in East Delhi, particularly those residing in and around Mayur Vihar, have been experiencing major power-cuts since Tuesday evening. An official of the BSES Yamuna Power attributed this to a panel flash in Mayur Vihar Phase-II grid at 7-50 p.m. on Tuesday.

While the BSES officials claimed that electricity in a majority of areas was restored by 1 a.m. on Wednesday, people claimed that they were without power for more than 26 hours at stretch.

"Such long hours of power-cuts are unacceptable in the Capital. This clearly shows that the BSES has failed in delivering the goods,'' alleged Rakesh Sinha, a residents of the area. "We did not experienced such long hours of power-cuts even during the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board days. While the electricity rates have been increased and meters are running fast resulting in inflated bills, there has been no improvement in power infrastructure,'' alleged Sangeeta Gupta, a housewife.

Agitated over the non-responsive approach of the call centres, she said: "It seems the BSES, which claims to be run by professionals, has not made any investment in the system they inherited from the DVB. They are just interested in minting money.''
