TIRUCHI, JAN. 16. N. Surendran of Chennai and P. K. Jayashree of Salem won the titles in the under-13 boys and girls categories respectively at the State-level children chess tournament conducted by the Tiruchi District Chess Association here recently. While Surendran collected 6.5 points from the maximum seven rounds, Jayashree aggregated perfect five points to top their respective sections. J. B. Vigneswaran of Salem (6) finished runner-up in the boys under-13 category, followed by K. Rakesh (5) and R. R. Omprakash (5), both of Tiruchi, who finished third and fourth respectively. A. Sitalakshmi of Madurai (4) finished runner-up in the under-13 girls section. While the third place went to S. Athirai of Dindigul, the fourth place went to D. Swathi Santhiya of Palani and both managed 3.5 each Bavan Kumar of Chennai with six points from seven rounds emerged victorious in the boys under- 11 category. Pravin Kumar of Thanjavur (6) finished runner-up, while third and fourth places went to Nirmal Kumar of Neyveli (5) and S. Nanda Kumar of Karaikudi (5) respectively. The title in the girls under-11 section went to S. Sreenidhi of Coimbatore, who collected six from the maximum seven rounds. S. Anusya of Neyveli (6) finished runner-up. S. J. Vaishnavi of Tiruchi (5) and S. N. Akilandeswari of Tiruchi finished third and fourth respectively.
