Tejaswi invited to take part in debate

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 17. Sri Vyasa Madhwa Samsodhana Pratishtana, headed by the Sanskrit scholar, Vyasanakere Prabhanjanacharya, today invited writer, K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi, to a public debate on Mr. Tejaswi's criticism of Madhwacharya.

Dr. Prabhanjanacharya told presspersons here today that he was surprised that Mr. Tejaswi had criticised Madhwacharya "without verifying the facts." He said Mr. Tejaswi's silence on the challenge to prove his statement that Madhwacharya classified dalits as inhabitants of "eternal hell" had raised doubts about the veracity of the statement. The followers of Madhwa would have no alternative but to construe Mr. Tejaswi's silence as proof of his inability to justify his statement. He set the deadline of January 21 for Mr. Tejaswi to clarify his stand, as Madhwanavami celebrations were to commence the next day.

He said he was ready to bring documentary evidence to any debate on the issue at any place and at any time that Mr. Tejaswi might suggest. Mr. Tejaswi, who was a man of calibre, should not hesitate to clarify his statement. If he could not, he should withdraw the statement.
