TIRUCHI, JAN.17. The Swamy Vivekananda Kalaikoodam celebrated the 142nd birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda, great son of the country, by organising various programmes for school students yesterday. People from various walks of life, who spoke, recalled Swamy Vivekananda's clarion call of `arise and awake' to the youths, which shook the countrymen, and urged the people to closely follow in his footsteps. S. Natarajan released a souvenir brought out in connection with the celebrations and noted author, Prema Nandakumar received the first copy. The president of the Kalaikoodam, R. Sridhar, presided over the function, when freedom fighters were honoured. The following were winners of the various competitions: Oratorical contest: Mansur Ali Khan (Khajamian Higher Secondary School). Poetry composing: Avinash Begam (Seva Sangam Girls Higher Secondary School). Painting: Harihara Krishnan (K. A. P. Viswanatham Higher Secondary School). Quiz: Renga Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Srirangam, team of Ragul and Srinivasan. Hhandicrafts making: Archana (Girls Higher Secondary School, Srirangam). Dancing: Srirangam Girls Higher Secondary School team of Pandi Selvi, Shalini, Veena, Vani and Priya.
