Rs.2.44 cr. for re-laying highway roads in Perambalur district

PERAMBALUR, JAN.17 . The Government has sanctioned Rs.2.44 crores for re-laying highway roads to a cumulative stretch of 17.5 km in Perambalur district during the current year.

In all, seven works will be taken up — four in T.Pazhuvur block, one each in the Jayamkondam, Ariyalur and Andimadam blocks.

The highway roads to a total stretch of about 10 km will be re-laid in the T.Pazhuvur block on an outlay of Rs.1.41 crores. A sum of Rs.64.65 lakhs has been sanctioned for repairing the TV Road- Vathikudikadu sector, Rs.52 lakhs for the Sripuranthan Suthamalli-Kasankottai sector, Rs.14.9 lakhs for the Sripuranthan-Anaikudi sector and Rs.9.10 lakhs for the T.Pazhuvur-Koothankudi sector.

A sum of Rs.38.2 lakhs has been sanctioned for re-laying the Rangiyam-Vallam sector in the Andimadam block, Rs.35.7 lakhs for the Kollapuram-Kulothunganallur sector in the Jayamkondam block and Rs.29 lakhs for the TC Road-Kurichinatham sector in the Ariyalur block.

Stating this information to the mediapersons here, the Collector, S. Natarajan, said acquisition of land for the development of the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway into a four-lane way was in progress. The district administration had identified 64 hectares in 15 villages on the national highway, of which 26 hectares had been acquired in eight villages, including Peraiyur, Thevaiyur, Valikandapuram, Nochiyam and Elambalur, he said.

The Collector said the trauma care unit would be started in the Government Headquarters Hospital here shortly. The total outlay of this Centrally-funded project was Rs.1.05 crores including Rs.60 lakhs for technical equipment. This was a long-felt need for extending treatment, especially to those injured in accidents on the national highway. An ambulance had also been provided to the hospital for bringing patients to the hospital.

The district administration had allotted sites to the Health department for construction of health sub-centres in 28 places in the district. Sites were being identified for six more sub-centres, he said.
