ALAPPUZHA, JAN. 17. A meeting of people's representatives and officials held at the Alappuzha district collectorate today decided to prepare a comprehensive plan to tackle shortage of drinking water during summer season. The District Collector, K.M. Ramanandan, who presided over the meeting, said the district administration would take measures to distribute drinking water to areas experiencing water shortage. The meeting asked presidents of grama panchayats in the district to submit suggestions to the district administration on the steps to be taken in their panchayats to ensure availability of drinking water during summer. The participants demanded that the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) take steps to solve the shortage of drinking water in various parts of the district. K.C. Venugopal, MLA, said that several areas in the Alappuzha municipality were experiencing shortage of drinking water. He demanded immediate steps to ensure water supply in the town. The Collector entrusted tahsildars to locate areas where drinking water is needed. The district panchayat president, C.S. Sujata, and other participated.
