New forum for cable TV operators

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, JAN. 17. Associations of cable television operators from different South Indian States have come together to launch the South Indian Federation of Cable TV Operators Associations (SIFCOA).

Announcing the launching of SIFCOA at a press conference here on Saturday, leaders of the Thamizhaka Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association (TCOA), Karnataka Cable TV Chamber of Commerce (KCCC), Pondicherry State Cable TV Owners Association (PSCOA), Andhra Pradesh Cable TV Operators Association and the Cable TV Operators Association of Kerala (COA) said the first meeting of the Federation would be held in Chennai in February.

They sought adequate representation for cable TV operators in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and other similar bodies. They condemned the move to impose service tax on cable TV operators and sought broadcasting rights to local channels. Condemning the move of leading pay channels to launch their own distribution system, they said this was detrimental to local operators' interests.

Shakilan, president, and Goguldoss S.P.K., secretary of the TCOA, Mohan, president of the KCCC, Saleem A.M., president of the PSCOA, and Govindan K., president of the COA, were present.
