HYDERABAD, JAN. 17. E.A.S. Sarma, Principal, Administrative Staff College, has suggested setting up of a regulatory system to check diversion of funds provided by various Government agencies for promotion of non-conventional energy sources. Inaugurating a workshop on `Energy efficiency and conservation in industry, the role of renewable energy' organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Padmasri Dr. B.V. Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur (Medak district), here on Saturday, he said nuclear energy was a feasible source provided the safety aspects were taken care of. The India Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited, New Delhi, co-sponsored the workshop which was attended by representatives of the industry and teaching staff of technical institutions. Ramesh Datla, vice-chairman, Andhra Pradesh unit of the Confederation of Indian Industry, called for higher productivity by the renewable energy industry utilising low-cost raw material, particularly minerals. He suggested that large-scale units, including public sectors units like the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, should go in for energy saving, more so in the case of furnaces and boilers. Pawan kumar, Director, National Productivity Council, in his keynote address underlined the importance of energy management in these days of escalating costs of power generation, transmission and distribution. Kunjithapadam, vice-chairman, Sri Vishnu Educational Society, which runs BVRIT, said conservation of energy assumed vital importance in view of depleting conventional sources. Earlier, K.V. Vishnu Raju, chairman of the society, welcomed. V.R.R. Datla, Principal of the institute, proposed a vote of thanks.
