TIRUPATI, JAN. 17. The Bharatiya Janata Party has said the strides made by Andhra Pradesh on various fronts are the result of the `liberal' sanctioning of funds by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the general secretary, K. Lakshman, said vibrant cohesion was in place between the NDA and the Telugu Desam Party which paved the way for overall development of the State. He admitted that an equally dynamic Government in the State reacted with matching agility in utilising the funds for developmental works. Responding to a query, he said: "The State has benefited more under the TDP rule when compared to the Congress regime."
Atal Sandesh Yatra
With talk of early general elections thick in the air, the BJP camp would be witnessing hectic activity in coming days. At the national level, the party was planning to launch `Atal Sandesh Yatra' under the guidance of L.K. Advani, Deputy Prime Minister, on January 23 to commemorate Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. The yatra would be held in Karimnagar, Tadepalligudem and Anantapur -- representing three regions of the State -- to take the achievements of the Government under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the public. Mr. Lakshman said an intellectuals' conference would be held to showcase the BJP's achievements. The Union Ministers -- Arun Shourie, Arun Jaitley and Jaswant Singh - would take part in the meets to be held in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. A national meet of official spokespersons would be held in New Delhi on January 28, in which Mr. Lakshman and Kishen Reddy would attend. Mr. Lakshman said outcome of the State office-bearers' meet in Hyderabad on Sunday in which the Union Ministers - Bandaru Dattatreya, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and U.V. Krishnam Raju - would take part would be significant in view of the polls. The Tirupati MP, N. Venkataswamy, the State Council member, G. Narayanaswami Naidu, and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha general secretary, G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, were present.
