KOLLAM, JAN. 17. The former Union Minister, Subramaniam Swamy, will inaugurate a national seminar on `Globalisation and agriculture' organised by the Economics Department of the Fatima Mata National College here on January 20. At a press conference here today, the college Principal, G. Henry, said the seminar is being organised as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Economics Department. On the occasion, Dr. Swamy will present a paper on `India in 2020'. Following the inaugural function, experts in the field of economics and agriculture will deliver talks on the many aspects of these two fields in the context of globalisation. More than 300 delegates from various colleges are expected to attend the seminar. At the seminar, S. Bala Ravi from the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation will present a paper on `TRIPS and Indian Agriculture', the associate professor of the Madras Institute of Development Studies, V. Chandrashekara Naidu, will present a paper on `Agreement on agriculture and its impact on the Indian agricultural sector', and the head of the Department of Development Economics, Kerala Agricultural University, U. Ramachandran, will present a paper on `Globalisation and liberalisation with special emphasis on contract farming'. The inaugural function would be presided over by the Kollam Bishop, Stanley Roman.
