KURNOOL, JAN. 17. Leaders of the Left parties have said they will actively back the junior doctors agitation if the Government failed to solve the problem by January 22. Addressing a press conference, T. Shadrak of CPI (M), Bhimlingappa of CPI and Naganna of SUCI said that on January 22, Left party supporters would burn the effigy of the Chief Minister and hold a protest march. The decision was due to the fact that the issues raised by the medicos concerned the common man as much as the junior doctors. Demands include withdrawal of user charges, restrictions on sanction of new medical colleges and dropping of GO no. 90. Apart from causing inconvenience to the public by taking up privatisation of hospital management, they said the Government was playing with the lives of junior doctors. Instead of discussing the issue with them, the Government was trying to suppress the movement. The Government held out a threat to junior doctors by disqualifying from appearing for the examinations this year.
