Badal case adjourned to January 31

ROPAR, JAN 17. A local court today adjourned hearing in the corruption case against former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and others to January 31.

The court of Special Judge S K Goyal admitted an application by Badal that he and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal as well as his wife Surinder Kaur Badal had not been given all the documents mentioned in the chalan filed against them by Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) last year.

Badal also said in his application that he and Sukhbir were public servants, therefore, the VB should have taken proper sanctions from Punjab Governor and Rajya Sabha Chairman, respectively. He also claimed that the chalan filed against them was fabricated.

Since the court is to hear argument on the applications of Badal's counsel and the VB, it granted exemption from personnel appearance to the Badals, both of whom were present in the court today.

Surinder Kaur Badal filed an application seeking exemption on health grounds, which the court permitted.
