Tributes paid to MGR

TIRUCHI, JAN. 17 . Rich tributes were paid to the AIADMK founder and late former Chief Minister, M. G. Ramachandran, in Tiruchi and its neighbouring districts on the occasion of his birth anniversary today.

The day was marked by distribution of free clothes to the poor and organising of annadhanams at various places in Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Karur districts. In Tiruchi, party cadres, led by the urban district secretary, Mariam Pichai, garlanded the statue of the late leader near the district court premises. A section of BJP volunteers and those representing the MGR Kazhagam and MGR Mandram besides AIADMK trade union members too garlanded the statues and portraits of the late leader.

The portraits adorned with garlands were kept in various parts of the city and in the district as a mark of homage to the departed leader.

In Pudukottai, party cadres garlanded the MGR statue near the old bus stand and distributed pongal and sweets to the members of the public.

In Perambalur district, the party volunteers took out processions at various places and garlanded the statue.

In Ariyalur, the procession was led by the party MLA P. Ilavazhagan. In Jayamkondam, the party MLA, Annadurai, garlanded the statues of Periyar, Anna and MGR.
