BANGALORE, JAN. 17. As part of its nationwide programme to protest against the National Democratic Alliance Government's decision to reduce grants from the University Grants Commission to the universities, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has organised a "Raj Bhavan chalo" on Monday. The NSUI General Secretary, Akhil Chadha, told presspersons here today that the reduction in the grants to the universities was affecting academic standards. The NSUI President, Ashok Tanwar, would also participate in the demonstration. The fees would be increased from the coming academic year and many students would not be able to pursue their studies, he said. Similar protest demonstrations would be organised on February 11 in Chennai and in Hyderabad in March. The NSUI, which had already held demonstrations in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, would organise students against the decision at the district level from February 15.
