BJP State executive begins

By Our Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM, JAN. 17. The crucial conclave of the State executive of the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) got under way here today.

The two-day meeting is expected to come out with a strategy for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections based primarily with an eye on exploiting the confusions in the Congress.

The meeting would also address the central issue of candidature for the elections and it is not unlikely that the list, if finalised, might present a combination of senior BJP leaders and key figures who have joined the party recently.

Inaugurating the meeting, the Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal, stressed on the theme of the `feel good' mood in the country. This was achieved more on account of comprehensive development and good governance rather than on account of ideology, he noted. Mr. Rajagopal pointed out that it was time to discard old slogans and programmes and attune to the changed global realities. The BJP State president, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, who addressed the gathering centred his speech around the confusion in the Congress both nationally and at the State level.
