Collectors to hear appeals on fair value of land

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN 17. The State Government has issued a notification fixing the fair value of land in all taluks, with a provision for filing objections and appeals before the respective District Collectors within 30 days of the date of notification.

The notification was issued on January 5 under the Kerala Stamp (Fixation of Fair Value of Land) Rules, 1995. The details of the fair value as per the survey numbers in all the villages in the State are available in CD-ROM, according to an official statement here today.

The fair value has been fixed as per the recommendations of the expert committee appointed by the LDF Government in 1997. The committee had recommended the setting up village and taluk-level popular fair value evaluation committees, and in view of the complaints in fixing fair value of land, these committees were reconstituted in 2001 by including elected representatives.

The village-level committees had reported to the taluk-level committees the fair value of land in their respective areas. The fair value register was later prepared after the taluk committees examined the proposals and submitted it to the Revenue Divisional Officers. The respective RDOs examined the taluk committees' proposals and published the fair value rates in the gazette. The fair value rates were simultaneously publicised in all village offices, village panchayats, municipalities, corporations, district registrar and sub-registrar offices, and RDO offices.

The statement said that objections could be filed in the prescribed form before the respective Collectors.
