PONDICHERRY, JAN. 17. The Pondicherry Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, today paid floral tributes to the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and founder of the AIADMK, M.G. Ramachandran, on the occasion of the 87th birth anniversary. He garlanded the leader's statue near the Rajiv Gandhi Municipal bus terminal at Orleanpet here. The AIADMK launched several welfare programmes. The party secretary and MLA, A. Anbalagan, along with representatives of different wings of the party, women volunteers and another legislator, A. Kasilingam, garlanded the MGR statue at the party headquarters at Uppalam. A portrait of the leader was decorated with flowers and was taken out in a procession from the party office to Orleanpet. The party distributed food packets to the poor. The branch units held special meetings to pay tributes to the leader.
