Exhibition on Lakshmibai Kelkar

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE, JAN. 17. The Rasthra Sevika Samiti has organised an exhibition on the life and philosophy of its founder, Lakshmibai Kelkar, at Sanghaniketan here on Sunday.

Around 150 photographs, models, and charts on the philosophy of Kelkar and that of the organisation will be on display at the exhibition. Pramila Mede, Vice-President of the samiti, told presspersons here on Saturday that the exhibition had been held in 66 cities across India. In Karnataka, the exhibition had been held in Gulbarga and Bangalore. She said the main aim of the exhibition was to create awareness about the perils of globalisation on the India economy in general and women in particular. The samiti had coined the slogan, "Bharathiyon, Angreziyath Chodo", which was a take on "Angrezo, Bharath Chodo" coined by Mahatma Gandhi at the height of the Quit India movement, she said. Ms. Pramila said the samiti was dedicated to ensure the welfare of Indian women. The main objective of the samiti was to organise women and instil respect in them for the country and its culture. Shakas would be held for women to impart training in different aspects.
