COIMBATORE, JAN. 17. The State unit of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will insist on its allies incorporating some of its major demands, including reservation for Muslims, in the manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, its president, K.M. Mohideen, told a press conference here today. It was because of rising unemployment among Muslims that the youth became restive. This led to some of them taking to extremism. He pleaded that States be given powers to prescribe the quantum of reservation. Similarly, he wanted an early end to the vexatious litigation over the Babri Masjid. Steps should be taken to expedite cases. He pleaded for clubbing cases, which were before various courts and approaching the Supreme Court. Pointing out that steps initiated to settle the Babri Masjid issue out of court had proved infructuous, Mr. Mohideen said, "we will abide by the judgment of the court." He also wanted changes effected in history books brought out by the National Council for Educational Research and Training as some ``distortions'' that had crept in were "poisoning tender minds". He wanted "open-minded" historians nominated to the institutions such as the Indian Council of Historical Research.
