Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, JAN 17. The Governorpet Police have reportedly obtained some vital clues which could eventually lead to the trail of the young woman kidnapper who allegedly carried away a newborn baby from the Government general hospital, Vijayawada. Following the publication of the reports in the media about the kidnap, a woman, Kanakadurga, resident of Woodpeta, Giripuram, has come out with information that her own son too was kidnapped by the same suspect a year back. Kanakadurga had on Saturday met the hospital superintendent, Krishna, and the grieving mother, Swaroopa, at the hospital along with the photograph of the suspect. Swaroopa and other family members, immediately acknowledged that the photo tallied with the suspect who befriended them and abducted the newlyborn child. Incidentally, the suspect identified as Kumari alias Bibi had reportedly kidnapped the one-year-old son of Kanakadurga from the latter's house at Woodpeta. The whereabouts of the boy is not known till date. According to Kanakadurga, Kumari happened to be distant relative and disappeared with her son. Following this the matter was reported to the Governorpet police, who immediately took up investigations. South Circle Inspector, Venkat Reddy, said they have picked up Pullaiah, an employee of the municipal corporation who reportedly had an illicit relationship with the suspect. Kumari was reported to be staying with Pullaiah about six months back before she left him, the city Police Commissioner, A.B. Venkateswara, told The Hindu. The Governorpet police are also on the lookout for one Sambaiah, a scavenger and resident of Krishna Lanka with whom also Kumari had an alleged illicit relationship. "We have also despatched a special team to Eluru, where Kumari used to stay with one of her male acquaintance,'' Mr. Venkat Reddy said. Meanwhile, Tadi Shakuntala, Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya, city secretary, blamed the Government for the kidnap incident. Shakuntala who visited the hospital on Saturday along with several women activists complained that the incident occurred due to the Government's alleged neglect of the hospital sector in the State. She pointed out that the Superintendent himself had complained about inadequate staff at the hospital on account of which the incident occurred. Ms. Shakuntala demanded that the Government order a high level inquiry into the incident and take immediate steps to strengthen the security apparatus at the Government hospital to prevent recurrence of such kidnapping incidents.
