Trauma care centre set up on NH

NELLORE, JAN. 17. The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Vallabbhai Kathiria, has announced the setting up of trauma centre, on the National Highway of Nellore, to render emergency health services to injured persons in accidents.

The Minister, who participated at a function held at Swarna Bharat Trust building at Venkatachalasatram, 15 km from Nellore on Saturday, in connection with the inauguration of mega free `Health Mela', expressed concern at the mortality rate of 64 per 1,000 population and said efforts would be made to bring down the ratio below 30, by the year 2010.

He referred to the holding of health melas in all parliamentary constituencies, for which the Union Health Ministry, has given an assistance of Rs. 8 lakhs.

The Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, K. Sivaprasada Rao, stressed the need for preventive care. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, appealed to all political parties to cooperate in the field of development, which alone would make India to be on par with developed countries. The Information Minister, S. Chandramohan Reddy, the MPs--Denzil B. Atkinson, who initiated the mela at Venkatachalam and V. Rajeswaramma— the Union Minister for Labour, Saheb Singh Verma, the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Labour, Babu Mohan, the Zilla Parishad chairman, P. Chenchal Babu, and other district officials were present.

For the `mela', more than 150 doctors, mostly superspecialists, from Hyderabad, Chennai and U.S.A. have offered their services.

On the occasion of the health camp, a memorial hospital in the name of B.V. Rao and Uttara Devi, was opened by Anuradha Desai, chairperson, Venkatsewara Hatcheries, Pune.
