Global music festival begins in Bangalore

BANGALORE,
JAN. 17.
The Laxminarayana Global Music Festival which brings together different schools of music in a setting different from the usual "fusion" concerts, began here on Saturday. The annual event is being organised by the violin maestro, L. Subramaniam, in memory of his father who was a professor at Jaffna College in Sri Lanka and a lover of music.
Satish Vyas on the santoor and the vocalist, Ulhas Kashalkar, performed at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Saturday. On Sunday, it will be the turn of the flautist, Hariprasad Chaurasia, and the vocalist, Ajoy Chakraborti.
The music festival will conclude on Monday with a jugalbandi which will see the vocalist, Pandit Jasraj, and Mr. Subramaniam himself. All concerts will begin at 6 p.m.
