KOCHI, JAN. 17. A crime review conference, 2003, of the city police was held here this evening. The Ernakulam Range DIG, B. S. Mohammed Yasin, chaired the meeting. "The achievements and shortcomings of the city police were taken stock of and the action initiated against goondas, history-sheeters and other criminals by the ACPs and CIs was reviewed. The performance of officers was rated and strategies to counter crime discussed. Our aim is to make the police functioning more target-oriented," he said. The City Police Commissioner, Vinod Thomas, ACPs and CIs were present at the meeting. The DIG gave rewards to personnel of the City Police, Ernakulam Rural Police and the Idukki Police who have played a vital role in capturing Malayattoor Santhosh who had stabbed to death an RPF constable.
