This Day That Age
Ghulam Ahmed, who led the Indian team to an innings win against the SJOC team at the Corporation Stadium in Madras, declared it was a proud moment for him. "It is my good fortune I should lead India to victory at Madras, a city dear to my heart. I have always been received here with the greatest kindness by the public and the Press. Every member of the team extended me co-operation both on and off the field. I am grateful to those who gave me the honour of leading India," he said. President of the Board of Control for Cricket, J.C. Mukherjee, said, "I am glad the Indian team has won so handsomely. India was up against a very strong side and has been able to show, under the captaincy of Ghulam Ahmed, that our team can hold its own against the best opposition. The SJOC team has a number of well-known players. Madras is to be congratulated on achieving this distinction. In previous years, we have seen other famous teams beaten at Madras, Madras has maintained that tradition. My best wishes go to the Madras Cricket Association, and to the sports-loving public of Madras."
